Bonci Pizzarium reviews are very popular because it is a highly recommended pizzeria on food tours and in guidebooks of Rome. I wanted to check this place out to see how the reviews stack up against all of the other pizza I’ve enjoyed while living in Rome.

Why Is Rome’s Pizza So Special?

When you are planning to eat Roman pizza, it helps to understand why it is important and one of the great joys of life. There are several reasons why pizza in Rome is considered special:

  • The Dough: Roman pizza is known for its thin, crispy crust, which is achieved by using a special type of dough that is high in gluten and fermented for a shorter amount of time than traditional Neapolitan pizza dough.
  • The Ingredients: Roman pizzerias use high-quality, local ingredients, such as San Marzano tomatoes, real mozzarella cheese and quality extra-virgin olive oil to create their pizzas.
  • The Cooking Method: Roman pizzas are cooked in electric ovens at high temperatures, which results in a crispy crust and perfectly melted cheese.

Overall, the combination of these factors make the best pizza in Rome a unique and special experience, and it is definitely worth trying if you’re in the city.

Who Is The Best Pizza Maker In Italy?

It is difficult to determine the best pizza maker in Italy as there are many skilled and talented pizza makers in the country. The quality of pizza can depend on a variety of factors such as the type of ingredients used, the method of preparation, and the cooking style. It is important to note that the best pizza maker is a matter of personal preference and that there is no definitive answer to this question.

Are The Bonci Pizzarium Reviews Right?

In a delicious sea of amazing pizzerias in Rome, the idea of finding “The Best Pizza In Rome” is a little ridiculous, but here we are. Bonci Pizzarium is a very popular place for tourists to visit and it is a well documented “must see” place.

Delicious Choices

We arrived before noon, in order to avoid crowds that flood the area even in the winter. We grabbed a numbered ticket, but thankfully we were next in line and were immediately helped by the friendly counter staff. We tried a couple varieties to try to get an overall sense of the pizza, and here is what we noticed:

  • The Type Of Pizza – I had written about the various types of pizza In Italy, and this falls under the Pizza al Taglio variety. It comes in large, long sheets and you order it by the square slice.
  • The Dough –  This is one of their strongest differentiators because the pizza dough is a bit thicker than other pizza in Rome, and is a great cross between soft and crunchy.
  • The Service – I mentioned above that the staff greeted us with a smile and were helpful and patient with us while we considered our options.
  • The Range Of Toppings – Looking under the counter, there were quite a few options to choose frome, with maybe 10 different pizza toppings available.
  • The Quality Of Toppings – This is another great way that Bonci Pizzeria distinguishes itself. The toppings are high quality, prepared carefully and seasoned well.
  • The Presentation – We took the pizza to go as we planned to eat it at a standing table outside. It was reheated, which I typically don’t request, but I was surprised that while it was warmed, it wasn’t very hot at all. In the cold weather, the pizza went cold surprisingly fast. They also topped the pizza slices with some olive oil after it was reheated. We were in disagreement on this because for me, it just dripped off, making a mess, while I ate the slices, while my wife enjoyed the added flavor and didn’t care about the drips.

I will give our overall thoughts on Bonci Pizza a little further down this article. Let’s discuss pizza a little bit more!

Which Italian City Has The Best Pizza?

It is widely believed that the birthplace of pizza is Naples, Italy. It is therefore often said that the best pizza can be found in Naples, and I heartily agree. Pizzerias in Naples follow traditional recipes, using simple and fresh ingredients such as San Marzano tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and olive oil. Additionally, pizzas in Naples are usually cooked in high temperature wood-fired ovens, giving them a unique taste and texture.

For me, L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele is the best Neapolitan pizza in the world. I had a couple opportunities to enjoy this in Naples and it was a transcendent experience. I also ate at the pizzeria in Rome and the food is the same high quality, but eating in Naples was truly an unforgettable experience. This isn’t the same style of pizza as Bonci Pizza as it isn’t Pizza al Taglio, but rather a full, individual pizza to eat with a knife and fork at a table.

What Is The Most Famous Pizza In Italy?

Without a doubt, the most famous pizza in Italy is the Margherita pizza. This classic pizza originated in Naples and is considered a symbol of traditional Italian cuisine.

Margherita From Naples

The Margherita pizza is made with simple ingredients, including tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, basil, and olive oil, and it is said to represent the colors of the Italian flag (red, white, and green). You can find Pizza Margherita pretty much everywhere in Rome and Bonci Pizzarium is no exception. One difference, however, was the delicious, high quality cheese they used.

Overall Thoughts On Bonci Pizzarium And The Best Pizza In Rome.

I was glad to make the trip out beyond Vatican City for this highly sought after pizza. It is easily reached on the Metro A line, getting off at the Cipro stop and walking only a block. I found this pizza delicious, well made and a step above the common Pizza al Taglio that you can find all over Rome.

Delicious Mortadella

I would recommend Bonci Pizzarium if you are in the neighborhood or if you are visiting the Vatican. For me, it is a pretty high bar to be called the Best Pizza in Rome and something that needs to be almost life affirming. This was very good and probably the best Pizza al Taglio I’ve eaten in Rome, but I probably wouldn’t go across the city for it unless someone I was with specifically wanted Bonci Pizza.
