My experiences with day trips and weekends in Orvieto have been nothing but fabulous. I have found that the town is easily manageable for a weekend but also has enough to offer someone looking for something more.

My recommendations are based on our personal experiences through multiple trips to this beautiful town, as well as glowing feedback from friends and relatives who have also been captivated by their stay in Orvieto.

When it comes to staying in Orvieto, I really can’t stress enough how much your own tastes matter. Location is less important because of the small size of the town, but your tastes can make this an even more memorable experience, as it has for us.

Where To Stay In Orvieto: My Experiences

For me, arriving in this mountain top town is a major part of the dramatic experiences you’ll enjoy. After scaling the mountain on a funicular, a short bus ride to the town center will unveil the beauty that Orvieto is offering.

Unless you choose to stay at a farmhouse outside the town, being centrally located is my recommendation and I have a few of my favorites listed below to review.

The 6 Best Hotels In Orvieto In 2026

1. Home In Orvieto – Corso Cavour (My Top Recommendation For Orvieto)

My appreciation for the location and the interior design of this space is what initially drew me to the Home in Orvieto – Corso Cavour. Being centrally located in Orvieto, before I realized that was lower in importance, was the main criteria.

I grew to love this apartment because of the space in the bedrooms and the open space in the main living/dining area. This open floor plan was a welcome respite for me from the tight medieval spaces outside.

I would definitely stay in this apartment again, but for the right reasons. It was relaxing, spacious and refreshing. After a day of walking around Orvieto, cheek to jowl during the summer crowds, this spacious escape has all I needed!

2. Emme Palace Hotel & Spa

We chose the Emme Palace Hotel & Spa because despite being a little further west from the center of town (inconsequential, because Orvieto is so small), it had some fancier amenities that we were looking for. Still reasonably priced, this hotel is for the spa lovers among you!

I love taking the train, but if you drive to Orvieto, then good news, there is private parking available. In addition, this was the first time that I stayed somewhere with a cave spa. My wife loved it and is looking forward to our next visit.

3. Palazzo Petrvs (Best Area For Hotels In Orvieto)

If location was the most important factor for me, then I would strongly consider Palazzo Petrvs, right in the heart of Orvieto. It offers you the easiest access to the major landmarks in the city.

I consider this more of a boutique hotel because of the intimate setting and limited number of guests. With only 9 rooms, the well-trained staff is able to give each guest the attention that they deserve.

I haven’t stayed here yet, but the style of the rooms, the quality service (based on reviews) and the delicious breakfast are all reasons that I would choose to raise the bar and stay here on my next visit.

4. Dimora Pertusa (Best Budget Hotel In Orvieto)

If you are concerned about your budget, then Dimora Pertusa is for you. Located a little outside the center of Orvieto, it is a lower-cost solution for staying right in the city.

I love this hotel because of its beautiful shared spaces and simple setting. Even though the cost conscious traveler needs to consider this hotel, my experience is that they don’t skimp on the quality of the rooms. I appreciate their focus on cleanliness and high quality service.

5. Villa Talleh (Best Villa Outside Orvieto)

My needs for a hotel in Orvieto no longer include being a central location, which opens up so many options in the surrounding towns. Staying in a spot like Villa Talleh can be a unique experience that can only enhance your visit to Orvieto.

For me, the farmhouse feel, the swimming pool and the surrounding tranquility are why I plan to stay here on our next visit. The sweeping views, the intimate setting, with only 2 bedrooms and a private kitchen are perfect for my needs. A quiet escape from the hustle and bustle of touring a new city like Orvieto.

I want to stay here for a number of reasons, but to be honest, they had me at swimming pool!

6. The Book & Bed (Best Superlatives Hotel in XXXX)

The Book & Bed is a pretty unique setting that is perfect for those of you who appreciate a hotel a little different than the typical Orvieto accommodations. This apartment is in a historic building conveniently located in the center of town.

I would describe the space as eclectic with a very specific vibe. The apartment comes with considerable space at a comfortable price and will surround you with shelves full of books with enough chairs to read everything!

For me, the loft-feel with the wood-beamed ceilings, wooden floors and the books scream relaxation and tranquility, despite being centrally located. To live up to its name, there are even books just outside the shower with a comfortable place to read them.

Everything You Need To Know Before Visiting Orvieto

  • Get an eSIM before you arrive in Italy: (Click here to sign up and use my discount code SATURDAYSINROME)
  • Get a ticket for the bus before getting on the funicular. This is the easiest spot to get a ticket (biglietto).
  • Even though the town is small, your favorite Maps app is a life saver. These winding Medieval streets can definitely get confusing to a first time visitor.
  • Choose a hotel that will enhance your experience. Location isn’t as important, but comfort, style and amenities are.
  • Expect small hotel rooms. This is typical for hotels in Europe, but they are small by US standards.
  • Don’t skip the gelato! There is a ton of amazing food and wine in Umbria, but while you’re walking around, I would recommend making sure you enjoy some gelato.
  • Walking is part of the fun. Even though Orvieto has public transport to get you to the center of the city, you’ll still walk a lot so bring comfortable shoes.

FAQs About The Best Orvieto Hotels In Italy

Is Orvieto worth visiting?

Yes, definitely! If I was traveling to Rome and was looking for an amazing day trip I would put Orvieto highest on my list. It’s convenient, different enough to be interesting and not typically too crowded.

Is Orvieto expensive?

I wouldn’t say that Orvieto is particularly expensive. I would put the cost at a comparable level as Rome, which is why it makes such a perfect day trip or weekend getaway from the Eternal City.

Where to stay, in Orvieto or outside the city?

I’ve only stayed in the city limits of Orvieto, and not at one of the local Umbrian farms. For me, the convenience of rolling out of bed and exploring the city is more important than having more space or even a swimming pool.

Where should I stay in Orvieto with a family?

My recommendation is the opposite of my experience. I would recommend staying at a local farmhouse and getting a ride into the city. While adults will enjoy all that Orvieto has to offer, I think children might want a dip in a pool to break up the day. Of course, this is for the warm months. I would stay in the city if those amenities aren’t an option because of the cold.

Final Thoughts on the Best Hotels in Orvieto, Italy

I hope my enthusiasm for Orvieto is sending a clear message: I’d happily stay at any of the hotels on this list. They’re all amazing with top-quality services and amenities. Most are within easy walking distance of everything you’ll want to experience in Orvieto.

I personally have had great stays in Orvieto, but next time I visit, I’d prefer to take advantage of having my Italian driver’s license and stay a little outside the city in a farmhouse. Either way, I’m certain you will have an amazing experience in Orvieto Italy.
