Is There A Winery Near Rome?

Luckily for me, there are quite a few vineyards near Rome. Until recently, I had a Centro Storico view of Rome, traveling mostly around the historical center. I’ve been venturing beyond the GRA (Grande Raccordo Anulare), which is the highway that circles Rome. Once you go beyond the GRA, the landscape changes to include farms, vineyards and other beauties of Rome that aren’t usually considered.

Does Rome Have Good Wine?

The wines of the regions around Rome (Lazio) are not as well known as their neighbors to the north (Tuscany), but there are some hidden gems that pair amazingly well with the food of the region. The Frascati wines are among my favorites and taking a tour of the vineyards around Rome is a great way to spend a day outside of the centro storico.

Where Is The Best Winery In Rome Or Italy?

I have come to learn that there are amazing wines all over Italy, and the Lazio region is no exception. Many people in the US are familiar with the wines of Tuscany, and there are quite a few amazing vineyards in Tuscany, but a fantastic option when you are visiting Rome is the wine selection from other regions in Italy, like Lazio. In my opinion, Tuscan wines have benefited from unusually strong coordination of promotion and marketing internationally leading to popularity around the world. They are, however, also delicious.

What Is The Best Wine In Rome?

The wines of Lazio are influenced by the volcanic soil, and the result is a selection of delicious white wines from areas like the well-known Frascati. The Roman red wines are not as high profile, but they are growing in popularity. Some of the more popular are those made from Sangiovese, Cesanese, Montepulciano, Merlot and Syrah. All in all, there are more than 200 grape varieties in the area.

How Much Is A Glass Of Wine In Rome?

Like anywhere else, the price of a glass of wine is influenced by its quality, availability and popularity. Wines in Rome are fairly inexpensive and can range from €4 on up. You can be more economical if you order a house wine by the glass, and if you order a carafe, it is even more economical. Regardless of your travel budget, you should be able to find a delicious Rome wine in your price range at dinner, in the grocery store or a specialty wine shop (enoteca) around the city.

Another Favorite Winery Near Rome Is Villa Simone

Getting out of the city and traveling out to the more rural areas in Lazio has been a joy of mine. I am making it a point to travel around to vineyards southeast of Rome and this week I made a visit to Villa Simone, which is a Frascati vineyard near the Castelli Romani area.

This beautiful vineyard offers a selection of wines, both red and white, extra virgin olive oil in 5L containers and grappa (if you are into that). The setting is beautiful, even during the blazing summer, and you can easily forget that you are only an hour from the Colosseum. If you are traveling in a group, this Frascati vineyard offers wine tastings, wine with food tastings and gift cards so that you can order online.

The Wines Of Vineyard Villa Simone

The Villa Simone vineyard offers red, white and spumante wines, some of which I bought and that I am excited to try. If you are interested, you can also order these wines online.

Does Villa Simone Have Vino Sfuso?

I have written about Italian house wines (a.k.a. vino sfuso) previously and it is something I enjoy greatly. Admittedly, I forgot to ask and I am making assumptions, but I believe it is available. I have a picture of two different tanks that look like they are used to refill the vino sfuso containers, one offering Malvasia del Lazio and the other with Cesanese.

How Do You Reach A Winery Near Rome Like Villa Simone

Like many vineyards in this region, the easiest way to reach this vineyard is to drive and that is what I did this time. I rented a Car Share in Rome and drove out to the Frascati region. The Villa Simone vineyard is about 30 km from Rome and having a car will make it that much easier to carry all these exciting bottles of wine back with you. The address is: Via Frascati Colonna, 29 in Monte Porzio.
