Is Rome In September A Good Time?

I will continue to repeat this to anyone who will listen: “Anytime is a great time to visit Rome!” You will need to keep in mind that while the crowds will be the largest ever during the summer months, there is only a slight decline in September. Also consider that the heat can still be unexpectedly hot and you should plan accordingly.

Don’t let that convince you to avoid making plans for a vacation in Rome. You can adjust your schedule to minimize the chance of fighting with the crowds and take some simple steps to avoid the heat and you can still have an amazing time here. The popular summer recommendations are still very valid:

Plan your outdoor activities, like visiting the Colosseum, early in the morning or as late in the afternoon as possible. For me, morning is best because even during the hottest months, the mornings are pleasant.
Plan to use your middays for indoor activities, like visiting museums, or better yet, take a relaxing and rejuvenating nap after an indoor lunch.
To avoid any last minute troubles, be sure to make reservations for every restaurant, tourist site and train ride well in advance of your trip. If you are working with a travel agent or tour company, be sure to tell them how important this is.

Follow these general recommendations and you should have an amazing time, despite the crowds and the heat.

Is Rome In September Too Hot?

While still hot, September begins the decline of temperatures, so I would say that it is not too hot to visit Rome in September. The decision depends on your tolerance for heat and it definitely is hot in Rome. Don’t underestimate the impact of heat: wear comfortable clothing, drink LOTS of cold water, wear sunscreen and take advantage of shade and A/C whenever possible.

One of my favorite things about Rome is that there are water fountains all over the city, called nasone, offering the weary traveler delicious, cool and very refreshing drinkable water to keep you hydrated for the long day in the sun. Be sure to take advantage of this and consider bringing or buying some electrolyte powders available at most pharmacies (Farmacia).

What Is The Weather Like In Rome In September 2023?

The weather in Rome in September is beginning to cool, but it still can be hot and it should be accounted for. The average low temperature in Rome in September didn’t change much from the previous month, but is a delightful 65°F (18°C) and the average high temperature is a more comfortable 80°F (27°C). These sound comfortable, but walking around in the hot sun all day combined with the possibility of a heatwave (or just unexpectedly higher temperatures) can be impactful, so plan accordingly.

Is Rome In September Very Crowded?

September is after the high season for travel to Rome, but it definitely will still be crowded. Determining if it is too crowded is really up to you. If you don’t like being in crowds, if rubbing elbows is annoying and you just wish people would F%$ck!ng M0v3, then September might not be a good time for you because the opportunity for aggravation is definitely high.

If you still want to come in September, or your schedule doesn’t have many other options, it can still be managed. Just be sure to book tours ahead of your visit, make reservations for every meal and make sure your hotel has A/C so you can use it as a midday escape from the oppressive heat.

The selection of seasonal foods that are available in September are beginning to shrink, but they shouldn’t be missed. There are no new fruits available in September and the ones that disappeared are: Watermelons, Strawberries and Raspberries. There are new additions to your choice of vegetables: Beets, Broccoli and Green Beans. Here is a more complete list of the fruits and vegetables you should be able to find in Rome during September:

Now that August is over and people are returning from Ferragosto In Italy, it is a feeling of renewal and of being back to work. Along with that theme, there are no bank holidays in Italy during September.

What Is Happening In Rome In September?

The World of Banksy (Continues in September) – The Immersive Experience exhibition reaches the eternal city, at the Commercial Gallery (la Galleria Commerciale) of the Roma Tiburtina train station.
Checco Zalone (August 29th – September 2nd) – This show, called Amore + Iva, by comedian, actor, singer and musician Checco Zalone will be held at the Auditorium at the Ennio Morricone Park of Music.
Annie Lennox (September 10th) – Annie Lennox will be the star of a solidarity concert in the park of the Colosseum. This concert has the aim of using music and art as universal languages to support humanitarian causes. The show begins with the light of dusk and ends with the suggestive darkness crowned by a starry sky.
