Where to Stay in Bari: My 5 Top Hotels in 2026 + Two Spots To Avoid

Our favorite city outside of Rome is definitely Bari and you should check it out as well!. It is a city in the southern Puglia region of Italy that is growing in popularity with travelers visiting some of the other, more well known cities. It is a little far for a day trip from Rome, so when we have plans to visit Bari, we take the opportunity to make a weekend out of it and stay in a wide range of hotels.

Where To Stay In Bari - Downtown

It is a little tricky to know the “right” place to stay if you are new to the city. I love the Murat district and we have delighted in staying in the Bari Vecchia neighborhood. Newcomers might not realize that some of the areas around the city are visitor friendly, which we love, and others are built for locals.

⭐️⭐️ Com a Cas – Feel at home in the Old Town – Click here for rates and availability

The parts of the city we love and you’ll want to consider are convenient to the beautiful sites of the city, as well as close to the restaurants and stores that visitors are looking for. Our recommendations are practical choices for the typical traveler, with one option that is more aspirational. We’ve also included two spots we dislike and recommend against, which might not be as obvious from the listing.

When it comes to staying in Bari, I really can’t stress enough how much location matters.

Where To Stay In Bari: My Experience

I’ve mentioned above that staying in Bari Vecchia and in the Murat neighborhood are without a doubt my favorite places to stay in Bari. They have a large selection of hotels, restaurants and sites that the first time, or repeat visitor like us, will want to be close to. Check out my 5 favorites below, and don’t miss the 2 hotels we don’t recommend, which you definitely should avoid.

The 5 Best Hotels in Bari

1. Bra Hotel Bari (My Most Aspirational Choice)

The one hotel that I am most interested in staying at is the Bra Hotel Bari. We have visited the hotel and been there for social events (i.e. cocktails with friends), we still long for the chance to stay with them.

Our travel style is more moderate, and the Bra Hotel Bari is a bit aspirational for us in that it is a little above our typical range and I feel the need to dress a little better when we stay there. Check out the hotel details linked above and you can see the fancy interior and the range of room styles available to you.

When it is time for us to celebrate something, like an anniversary, birthday or holiday, we know that the Bra Hotel Bari is waiting for us.

2. Argiro Apartment by Palazzo Zippitelli (Our Favorite Place In Bari)

This apartment, the Argiro Apartment by Palazzo Zippitelli, is without a doubt our favorite place to stay in Bari. It is very popular, so you will want to make reservations as quickly as possible. It is definitely not a last minute decision to stay here.

The staff was pleasant and helpful getting us settled when we arrived, and if it matters they also spoke English, but there are no guarantees on that. It is more spacious than one would expect in Italy and the views of the street below keeps you in touch with the goings on.

The amenities include: air-conditioning, WiFi, a fully equipped kitchen, espresso machine and a dishwasher. Additional amenities include a washing machine

The location, in the Murat and very close to the main thoroughfare of via Vittorio Emnuelle II

3. Com a Cas (Best Located Hotel In Bari)

For us, the Com a Cas property was in a perfect location. We had business on the border of the Murat and Bari Vecchia, which is why we’ve stayed here multiple times and plan to in the future. It is located “one toe” into Bari Vecchia, which is why we found it convenient to almost everything we’d want to see while there.

We were concerned about one characteristic. The apartment is on the second floor, one flight of stairs up from ground, but there is no elevator. It wasn’t a problem for us, but if you have mobility issues, you will want to be aware of this.

Apart from that, we expect to be staying with them again in the near future.

4. Good Vibes Apartment (Best Hotel View In Bari)

For us, the Good Vibes Apartment provided something a bit difficult to find in Bari and that is an amazing view. The partially covered terrazza is sunny, shady and stunningly beautiful. If you want to get away from the crowds, I believe there is no place better at such a reasonable price.

We found the main living space to be clean, modern and spacious, but let’s be honest, you will want to be out on the terrazza as much as possible.

This is located in the Umbertino neighborhood, which is between the Murat and the sea, so it is also convenient to the sites and restaurants you will want to be enjoying, but with a little bit of distance from the crowds.

5. Scesa San Michele

The Scesa San Michele is another apartment solution that benefits from a convenient location between the Murat and Bari Vecchia neighborhoods. The popular Pane e Pomodoro Beach is only 1.2 miles down the Lungomare (waterfront walkway), while the Bari Cathedral is an easy 4-minute walk.

The only negatives we had were actually a split-decision. One of us felt like the furnishings were a little dated, but the other found them clean, functional and functional. We suggest you take a look at the pictures on the listing and judge for yourself.

Here Are Two Places To Avoid In Bari

1. LB&b Holiday Suite Downtown Bari (Worst Toilets In Bari)

In the listing for the LB&b Holiday Suite Downtown Bari, we didn’t see much of a reference to this at the time, but by our standards, their plumbing system is surprisingly rickety. They won’t allow you to flush any paper, which we are not a fan of. To our surprise, their expectation is that you bag up your used TP and bring it outside to the garbage after every usage. From our experience, this is uncommon in Bari for the hotels we’ve enjoyed staying in, which is why we suggest that you avoid this property.

2. Sea Moon Apartment (Smallest Room In Bari)

In our opinion, the Sea Moon Apartment, even by European standards, is a very small space. We found it difficult to discern from the photos, but the “kitchen” area requires you to stand sideways without the ability to open all the appliances, like the oven. The bathroom was difficult to move around in and there was little room for bag storage. Even for one person, we found it unusable and we recommend you look elsewhere.

Everything You Need to Know Before Visiting Bari

  • Get an eSIM before you arrive in Italy: (Click here to sign up and use my discount code SATURDAYSINROME)
  • It is an easy walk from the train station to most of the areas you will want to stay in. No need for a cab.
  • Even though the town is small, your favorite Maps app is a life saver. It is most necessary in Bari Vacchia, which can definitely get confusing to a first time visitor.
  • Choose a hotel that will enhance your experience because of its convenience. We believe location is important in Bari, but comfort, style and amenities are important additions.
  • Expect small hotel rooms. This is typical for hotels in Europe, but they are small by US standards. B&B apartments are bigger, typically, and we have found them more comfortable.
  • Don’t skip the fried polenta! There is a ton of amazing food and wine in Bari, but while you’re walking around Bari Vecchia, I would recommend making sure you enjoy some of these crunchy delights.
  • Walking is part of the fun in Bari, so don’t worry about taxis and ride-shares.

Final Thoughts on the Best Hotels in Bari

To summarize, I’d be happy to stay at any of the hotels on this list (apart from the two we recommended that you avoid, of course). They’re all fantastic choices with amenities, comfortable rooms, and excellent locations. Most are either in the Murat or Bari Vecchia, which makes getting around Bari simple.
